A lifetime of experience...

James began studying piano at age 5, performed his first vocal solo around age 6, began percussion (trap) lessons at age 7, and began woodwind studies at age 11. Throughout his childhood and teen years, he performed regularly on stage (musical theater) and in area churches. He earned membership in various honor instrumental ensembles as well as the opportunity to study as part of the Quartz Mountain Arts Institute (alumni include Megan Mullally, Tim Blake Nelson, Milena Govich, and others). James received numerous awards as a competitor in solo and ensemble contests at local, state, regional, and national levels. By late high school, he had been granted the privilege of both recording and touring the southwestern United State as a member of multiple vocal ensembles (including 3 years as an original member of the group Praisong).
James holds a Bachelor of Musical Arts (vocal performance) degree with a Secondary in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Oklahoma where he had the privilege of studying voice under Professor Jim Wainer (former lead tenor with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) and Dr. Delores Leffingwell (The Juilliard School, Syracuse University, and the Peabody Conservatory of Music). In addition to both undergraduate and graduate level vocal training, James earned over 40 credit hours in woodwind performance and instrumental education including membership in the University of Oklahoma Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band. James spent a little over four years in the clarinet studio of the late, Dr. David Etheridge (DMA from the Eastman School of Music).
In the fall of 1991, James took on his first private music studio students and has provided outstanding piano, voice, and woodwind instruction ever since. In addition to offering private instruction, from 1998-2000, James served as an adjunct member of the music faculty at Southwestern A/G University (instructor in voice). He has served as an adjudicator at both state and local levels of Talent and Fine Arts Festival youth competitions.
Blessed with many opportunities to grow in and use his musical gifts, James counts it a privilege to provide some of these same opportunities to his students.
